Paint the Room Neutral and Add Your Color and Style

Turn your room into a canvas by choosing the perfect neutral wall color. Keep in mind that lighter colors will make the room appear larger and deeper colors will create a cozier environment. Also keep in mind that even a neutral color has different color undertones, so it is important to sample the colors in the space where they will live to make sure you are bringing out the correct tones in the room. Once you have your blank canvas you are ready to bring out your personal style. Here are some suggestions:  Fabric is the easiest way to add color. Choose pillows, throws and curtains in your favorite colors or even the color of the season. You can also choose neutral pillows and tie them with trims or fabrics that bring in just the right pop of color.- Add a great rug. Mix and match them for an eclectic look or an oriental rug for a more traditional look.
- When expensive art is not an option, create your own. Purchase blank canvases and paint in your colors to create one of a kind art. The larger the canvas the more impact it has. Try creating a combination of canvases.
- Choose a pop color that is featured in a number of products such as desk chair, books, stapler, curtains, etc. These can be easily changed and trends and a seasons change.
- When investing in window coverings, choose something that is classic and withstanding such as wooden blinds. To add color and softness, drape fabrics at the top or create a unique valance.
- When shopping for pillows and accessories, don't feel like they all have to "match" perfectly. Bring your favorite colors together and tie them together with one common color, say chocolate brown or black.
- Working with all white in various textures, undertones and finishes is a great way to decorate. Add your color in very special pieces that become the focal points of the room.
- Take decorating with neutrals to a new level by painting the walls and main furniture pieces the same color such as the desk and filing cabinets. As these become the background, you then highlight with a great fabric print or choose one special color and decorate with accessories in that color.
 Create your own headboard and cover it with a great color and textured fabric. This board can be updated and changed as your tastes change, giving your bedroom a new and updated look whenever you like. - Bring a metal color in as the accent, which brings a shine and richness to the décor.
- Paint cabinets a neutral color and, where possible, remove the wood and add glass to a cabinet door or two. Feature kitchen items in pop colors through this glass and bring a whole new feel to the kitchen.
The key to interior design today is creating spaces that are a reflection of you. Don't be afraid to try different colors, combinations and styles just as you would when getting dressed. You want to feel as comfortable in your space as you do in your clothes.
