Why Trim Paint Turns Yellow

Tuesday, March 6, 2007

Q. I have white tile in my bathroom and painted walls and trim and the trim paint has turned yellow and no longer matches the tile and walls, why is that happening?

A. Most trim has been painted with an oil based paint which will turn yellow over time. It has been the paint of choice for trim due to durability and ease of application, but the end result will change over time. To combat this the Canvas Home Basics Designer White in the Furniture, Cabinet and Trim paint is a latex based paint that is perfect for trim and other surfaces and will dry to match standard white tiles and will remain a true match and not yellow.
